Opinel

Opinel

Hardly any other pocket knife stands for tradition and sustainability more than the Opinel knife from France. The Opinel knife was created on the banks of a mountain stream in the shadow of the Savoy mountains. Invented in 1890 by Joseph Opinel, it impresses with its simple and robust design and practical handling.

Timeless, unique, and proven, Opinel knives have been part of everyday life for many people for generations. Opinel pocket knives and tools are manufactured in Chambery in the French Savoy region, where the brand has its roots. The company is run by Denis and Francois Opinel, the great-grandchildren of Joseph Opinel.

The security ring

All pocket knives from No. 06 onwards are equipped with the Virobloc safety ring invented by Marc Opinel in 1955. This locks the blade in both the open and closed positions, ensuring a high level of safety.

The wood

95% of the wood used comes from sustainable, regional forestry. This minimizes harmful environmental impacts.

carbon steel

The carbon steel used comes from Germany and is reworked in France. This steel can be easily resharpened and the blade becomes sharper than that of a stainless steel knife. These knives are particularly suitable for cutting soft materials. Carbon blades are susceptible to rust and must be well maintained. They should not be used in damp environments and should not come into contact with acids. The blade must be dried after each use and should be greased regularly.

stainless steel

The stainless steel used comes from Sweden. The stainless steel blades are highly corrosion-resistant and do not require any special care. The blade has high abrasion resistance andis therefore particularly suitable for hard materials

Made in France

All Opinel pocket knives are manufactured at the factory in Chambery, Savoy, in the heart of the French Alps.
