Interesting facts
18/10 stainless steel
The designation 18/10 (#316) stands for the chromium (18%) and nickel (10%) content in food-safe stainless steel. Chromium is added to give the steel its hardness, and nickel makes it durable. The end product, stainless steel (inox), is completely rust-free, durable, and harmless to health. None of the raw materials used are released when the stainless steel is cooled or heated.
18/8 stainless steel
The designation 18/8 stands for the chromium (18%) and nickel (8%) content in food-safe stainless steel. Chromium is added to give the steel its hardness, and nickel makes it durable. The end product, stainless steel (inox), is completely rust-free, durable, and harmless to health. None of the raw materials used are released when the stainless steel is cooled or heated.
201 stainless steel
Unlike 18/8 stainless steel, 201 stainless steel contains less nickel and chromium, but approx. 6% manganese. This makes the material even harder, but also slightly more susceptible to rust and acids. This also results in a lower price compared to products made from 18/8 stainless steel. Products made from 201 stainless steel are all completely free of harmful substances and ideal for food use.
We recommend washing and drying products made of 201 stainless steel by hand, even if the manufacturers themselves do not indicate this on their products.
B Corporation
A B Corp certificate is to private companies what a Fair Trade label is to coffee.
In their "Declaration for Interdependence," certified B Corporation companies state that they are committed to a new economic sector in which private companies harness their collective power to also benefit the general public.
You consider the following "truths" to be plausible:
- We must be the change we want to see in the world.
- All business transactions should be conducted in such a way that the consequences for people and the environment are taken into account.
- Through their products, actions, and profits, companies strive to cause no harm and give something back to the community.
- In order to act in accordance with the above principles, we must recognize that we are all dependent on each other and therefore share responsibility for each other and for future generations.
Companies that are certified as B Corps must adhere to strict standards in the social and environmental spheres, as well as in terms of accountability and transparency. Today, more than 1,000 companies are already part of the growing community of certified B Corps, which brings together companies from 33 countries and over 60 industries with a shared goal: "to redefine success in business"!
Economic activity, the greatest man-made force on this planet, must create value for society and not just for shareholders. Systemic challenges require systemic solutions, and the B Corps movement offers a concrete, market-oriented, and scalable solution.
BPA
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemically produced basic component of polycarbonate plastic. BPA is found in numerous everyday items, such as the inner coatings of food cans, camping tableware, drinking bottles, plastic packaging, CDs, nail polish, epoxy resins, paints, adhesives, and even thermal paper receipts. It can enter the body through skin contact or through food from containers that contain BPA. Complaints such as cardiovascular problems, liver and kidney damage, maldevelopment of the immune system, and hormonal disorders are associated with this substance. The dosage at which the chemical is harmful to human health is controversial. In any case, it is better to avoid this chemical as much as possible.More info link
Spill-proof
The Sippy Cap and Sport Cap closures from Klean Kanteen are spill-proof. This means that no liquid will usually leak out if the bottle falls over or is carried in a bag. However, a few drops may escape.
